trucking jobs
I don’t usually rate or critique truck stops, but we’ve been here for five days. Next time we go on strike, we pick a better truck stop! Hotels in the area are $80 a night and up, even the piece of crap hotel at the truck stop was $79. Did TA raise their shower prices? $9.00 for a shower, no deposit, just $9.00 period. No wonder there was always someone at the sink! I’ll spare everyone the details on that picture. The truck stop restaurant, according to Cindy, "One step away from pig slop!" It’s really bad, I’m not sure how they can screw up an omelet, but they managed.
Toward the end of the day it becomes a circus full of clowns trying to park. Their WIFI hotspot is worthless too.
The good part about this armpit is that Enterprise Rental Car is a short walk and there is a great diner down the street. Walk past the truck stop and past the prison on 175 for Enterprise. Go toward highway 1 and take a left for Frank’s Diner just past the Red Roof Inn. We did rent a car and checked out DC and Baltimore and stayed in the truck at night.
Now we notice they blocked off an area near the parking lot exit and might be building a cash box. Just what we need, pay for the privilege of parking in this disgusting rat hole.
I had to laugh a little about the Jessup, MD, T/A. I have to agree with what you said about that place. It certainly does lack some of the specific things to make it what I would call a classy place.
The one thing you said that I find so comical was the room rates for the motel. The only reason why they are charging those prices of because there is a few of the drivers dumb enough to pay those ridiculous costs. If people are dumb enough to pay them, why not charge it?
So, respectfully, I say, it isn’t the fault of the T/A in Jessup, but, the drivers who rent their overpriced rooms.
I spent the weekend once in Sparks, NV, at the Alamo before it became the Petro. When I asked how much for the room, I believe they said it was something like $55.00 a night. I said, “Too much. How much money will the room make this weekend if not rented?” Getting my hoped for response, “Nothing,” I offered the desk clerk $35.00 a nite including taxes.
I put my luggage in the room within a few minutes after paying the offered price. I think more of us who like to stay in the motels did the same thing, it may send a message to the hotel/motel people, T/A included.
On the hotel thing- there is a point where a hotel will loose money by renting it out for cheap. (having to pay for the maid to clean and power used etc)Granted that it would have to be a hotel that gives a rat’s ass about the room being clean. For $80.00 a night that better be the cleanest room I have ever seen.
