Stop Using the Shoulder

Now that summer is here and the roads are filled with people driving around. There’s always a lot of cars on the side of the road. It would be a full time job stopping and helping everyone. The problem is that I see people changing drivers on the shoulder. I’ve even seen people picnicking on the shoulder! Trucks will be stopped, sometimes just so they can ‘cool their tires’, (I’m not explaining). The shoulder is the most dangerous place to pull over if it’s not necessary. Cops have been injured and killed while ticketing cars on the shoulder. And now this wreck happens from a mother being distracted from her cell phone and her kid in the back seat, runs a little bit off the road onto the shoulder. This probably happens all the time. But this time a truck was on the shoulder checking a blowout. An absolutely horrible accident caused by something stupid. Stop pulling over on the shoulder unless you absolutely have to!

I very nearly had an accident like this, I was driving past on the right and the trucker had put out little orange reflective triangles that actually went out into the right-hand lane.

I couldn’t get over (heavy traffic) in time and almost slammed into the SUV to my left trying to get out of the way of the triangles (I don’t know what they are called) and the big rig that was right on the shoulder line. Scary stuff.
