Mexican trucks with Mexican drivers hauling Mexican stuff shouldn’t be our only concern about immigrants

POLICE: Immigrant trucker with limited English caused 10 deaths in Texas, police say.
Miroslav Janusz Jozwiak, 45, a Polish national who was driving for Crown Point-based K V Trucking Inc., also known as K V Express, now faces 10 counts of criminally negligent homicide in the Monday crash, said Sherman, Texas, police Lt. Todd Smithers.
There are A LOT of eastern european truckers around now. Troopers have to use translator services more for europeans then hispanics.
Jozwiak, who listed an address in Daytona Beach, Fla., required a Polish interpreter when he was arraigned on the charges Tuesday.
Federal law requires that individuals seeking commercial driver’s licenses to operate heavy trucks must speak English so they can understand road signs and other highway markers.
And that Federal law is well enforced as we can see.
An attorney for K V Trucking, David LaPorte, of Chicago, said Jozwiak has been living and working in the country for “some time” and was doing so legally with an immigrant work permit. He said he was uncertain to what degree the driver can speak English.
Legally smegally. He still couldn’t speak enough english to communicate.
It was not known Friday whether K V Trucking, which said it was cooperating with the investigation, would face any fines or other penalties in the matter.
Cooperating by hanging the driver out to dry. No different than any other company. Deny any wrong doing and blame it all on the driver.
The blaze also destroyed the contents of Jozwiak’s semi cab, meaning police have not been able to find any hours of service log books or other material truck drivers are required by law to keep, Smithers said.
That was probably the luckiest thing to happen for that driver.
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records indicate this is not the first fatal accident in which a truck operating for K V Trucking has been involved.
Sometime in the two years before Sept. 18, another K V truck also was involved in a fatal accident, state records show. No details were available regarding a specific date or circumstances of that accident.
That’s sad. Two fatalities for a small company in less than two years. They should be shut down.
