trucking jobs
Seems pretty basic uh? Well. sometimes we have to learn the hard way. I’ve never had a problem with UPS losing something before. And I didn’t want to have to find a truck stop with a copier that worked and pay to get a copy of absolutely everything I sent out. My solution was to scan everything into the computer. BOL’s, receipts I’m sending in to get reimbursed for and whatever I think of next. Mostly, whatever I send that someone (including me) can lose!
I went to CompUSA and bought the Visioneer (at visioneer.com) Strobe XP 100. As I was standing in line waiting to pay the cashier, the guy in front of me turns around and says I should have gotten the "200". Compusa didn’t carry the 200, and I was already paying $200 and didn’t think I needed something more expensive. He was saying the roller doesn’t track well and pieces of paper will get stuck and won’t scan. I googled the scanner to look for opinions. The critics said pretty much the same thing and consumer opinions ranged from bad to worse.
I’ve had mine for a couple of months and haven’t had any problems with it at all. Scanning regular 8×10 sheets, small thin bills and really small toll receipts. I’ve had to play with the settings to get a clear copy that could be read, but some of the toll receipt originals are tough to read. One of the comments from the critics mentioned Visioneer had taken the part of the software that aligned and straightened the scan. I’m not that picky. My copies are just that. Copies that will be kept in case someone loses the original. Then I can fax them the scanned copy and not worry about a few black lines on the side or if it’s not perfectly straight.
So far, it’s easy to use, I like it because it’s small and doesn’t require a separate power cord. It gets it’s power from the USB port. It’s quick and the quality is pretty good for what I’m doing. I haven’t tried photographs yet, but most of mine are already digital so that’s not an issue.
Bottom line is - I like it, I don’t understand what all the fuss is about, unless I’ll find out as the unit gets older. It does the job now. And at a quarter a page, it will pay for itself after 800 pages. I know that’s a lot and it’s probably not the most cost effective but it is convenient. And I’m copying things I wouldn’t before because it’s more convenient.
